After these Messages, We’ll be Right Back
Tiffany here. I’m back after a lengthy absence. I stopped because Andy requested that there be a little less emphasis on breastfeeding on his blog.
Seriously…it kinda hurt my feelings, so I thought, “I’ll show him. I won’t post at all. I’d like to see him do something five times a day and not blog it or Twitter it.” The problem was he’d already forgotten the whole conversation, so it wasn’t really punishing him at all. But now I decided to blog again…without any talk of nursing, of course.
Caleb had a big adventure last week. He went to the bay (Mobile Bay) for a week with Andy’s parents and his two cousins. He had a blast and did not want to come home.
He came back with a lot of sand and one unusual new habit: quoting TV commercials.
We have On Demand which allows him to watch shows like The Berenstein Bears, Backyardigans, or Tom and Jerry without commercial interruption.
So the other day in the car I said, “How about Burger King for lunch?”. Caleb paused for a minute and replied, “Indiana Jones toys available for a short time only at Burger King”. My mouth dropped open, and I tried not to laugh. He had never been to Burger King so I asked where he heard that. He said, “It’s in the commercials”.
Here are a few other quotes he has given me from the commercials:
“You know mommy you can buy this cereal called Lucky Charms and it has real marshmallows in it”.
“Trix cereal looks really good on TV mommy”.
‘You know mommy you can buy Indiana Jones LEGOs at Wal-Mart”.
Yesterday, while waiting at the doctor’s office, he said, “Daddy watch. It’s a really funny commercial”.
I’ve always thought commercials were a waste of time, but now I know just how effective they are for impressionable minds. As the week has gone on he seems to be quoting less and less marketing slogans. I for one am glad!

Sometimes I’ve wondered if Tivo is robbing Ben of commercial nostalgia material. You know… “Pretty sneaky, sis!” “Lego my eggo,” the Kool Aid man and all that. But thanks to your post I’m just fine with that :)
