Almost Everything There Is to Know About Caleb
Hey, Tiffany here. Andrew is off at Mimi’s house this week while Caleb finishes his last week of kindergarten. Andy and I are enjoying the time with Caleb as the only child again. Although he was our only child for four and a half years, it is easy to forget what it was like back then. So it is a good time to write about what Caleb is up to these days.
He is currently finishing up baseball season. It’s his first year to play where the coach pitches, instead of hitting it off a tee, and he hits the ball really well.
Caleb weighs 62 pounds, and is 52 inches tall. He loves being over 4 feet tall so that he can do all the rides at the waterpark this summer. This is a big deal when you are 6 years old. He is skipping swim team this summer since we are going to be out of town for several weeks of the season. That doesn’t mean he isn’t counting down the days until the pool opens. He is a great swimmer and loves the deep end and diving board.
Reading has always been a passion for him. We always have 50-75 library books. We just finished rereading through all of the Dr. Seuss books and finished all of the books by Bill Peet. He loves books about factories and machines and drawing books. One of the best books for him from the last library trip was called Poop: The Dungbeatles Place in the Food Chain. He loved it!
Drawing is another passion for him. He goes through a drawing notebook for every month of the year. He always uses the exact same kind of sketchbook. He draws everyday. He only draws factories, machines, new inventions, bad guy traps, and robots. I once suggested he draw a nice landscape scene, rainbow, houses, or people. He responded with “I draw machines to crush your rainbows and houses!”.
Caleb’s other interests include Legos and playing outside. He is happiest outdoors exploring, riding his bike or scooter, or playing with water guns.
Caleb eats as much as an adult. He has never been picky. Most nights after dinner he comes downstairs wanting a snack before falling asleep. He drinks an unbelievable amount of milk. We go through a gallon every two and a half days. He likes hot meals instead of sandwiches. I worry about how much he’ll eat as a teenager!
Caleb is a science lover. We are always doing some sort of experiment. Last week we were making animal traps that caught a squirrel and a chipmunk. This week we are working on a barometer and a weather vain. We try to support him on whatever his latest project is.
Caleb is a control freak. Very Type A personality. I have no idea where he gets this from! He is reserved and mellow. He is an introvert like me and Andy. He needs time alone to recharge. If he doesn’t get it he will be very cranky. He enjoys drawing or listening to a book on CD alone in his room with his door closed. He has always been an easy child, and really never given us any problems. He is so fun to be with.
His new hobby is making up jokes…jokes that he thinks are so funny, but really they aren’t. It makes us laugh though. His latest joke is “Why is the owl cranky? Because he is up all night. He is noctural. Get it!
Caleb is very kind, helpful, and a great big brother. He loved school this past year, and is really looking forward to the summer. It’ll be fun having him home with us for the summer.
