And on his farm he had some ants
We once raised caterpillars until they turned into butterflies. We had a hermit crab living with us for most of last year. So we weren’t surprised when the only thing Caleb specifically asked for last Christmas was an ant farm. When he unwrapped it, he was so excited.
But there was one problem. There were no ants. Inside the box was a note saying that they couldn’t ship the ants over the Christmas holidays because the mail is slower and it was considered “cruelty to animals.” They also couldn’t send them until the weather was above freezing, which was this week.
Therefore, we are now proud owners of an ant farm…E-E-I-O.
The ants are all female, but there is no queen, so there’s no way for them to reproduce….which is a good thing. Actually, we learned that it’s illegal to send queen ants through the mail. Who knew?
