Organizing Legos: Before and After

Tiffany

Growing up as a girl I never played with Legos. As the mom of boys the last two years of my life has been a crash course in all things Lego.

Caleb loves them. Actually Andy does too. Not the big Legos anymore either. He likes the microscopic Legos…the kind that stick the bottom of your feet and make you want to use profanity. The kind that I have to quickly pull of the baby’s mouth to avoid a trip to the ER. Until recently, Caleb’s bedroom was a disaster, a daily explosion of Lego bricks. Now I have finally mastered Legos…not building with them but organizing them!

Here is what Caleb’s room was like before my Lego system:

Caleb likes the Legos separated by color, so I bought large drawer carts. There is one drawer for each color, wheels, windshields, people, and a large drawer for works in progress. The drawers are labeled on the outside with a sticker. The best part of all is that the Legos don’t leave the drawer while searching for the right piece. Caleb just pulls the individual drawers out. We’ve been using the system for over two weeks, and it works great. Clean up is a breeze.

Great idea! However, they are seperated by themes. My son uses the pamplets and box (picture is on the box) that show how to build that particular themed product. Where do you keep the pictures. And, I don’t necessarily think that you can mix up the pieces. Wouldn’t that make it difficult on the child?

Talk to me, Goose
