Caleb’s World
In the last few weeks Caleb has really gotten into pretend play. He sees things that aren’t around, talks to people who aren’t here, and makes up the craziest stories.
It’s really fun. I’m getting into it myself. I can eat twenty pretend chocolate chip cookies, and yet there are no calories to count.
I assume this pretend play is a normal part of being two. When he is with a friend they go right along with him. They add on to his stories, and eat whatever pretend food he hands them.
However today he took pretend to a new level. He asked, “What do you take mommy?” (from experience I know this means what kind of food do you want). He crawled under the ottoman to fix it. Then he brings it over to me. I said, “But I want cheese on it”. He replies, “We are all out of cheese”. I looked really sad.
Then he reached into his Bob the Builder underwear and guess what he pulled out? You’re right… a piece of pretend cheese. After all Bob’s motto is “Can we fix it? Yes we can”.
