Catching On
Caleb is catching on to how adults work. He has totally figured me out. Here are a few examples over the past week…
I said, “Let’s clean up the ball pit. The balls are happiest when they’re in the pit.”
Caleb responded, “You mean you are happiest when the balls are in the pit”.
Caleb said,” By the way mommy I found my art work in the trash can”. What am I suppose to do with the endless amounts of artwork that he creates? Sure I save the best and the refrigerator is overflowing with art, but the rest has to go. Now he knows to check the trash on a daily basis. I thought I had outsmarted him and starting using the laundry room trash, but now he checks there too. Once I even threw some stuff in the outside trash can and guess what? He found it. I explained dumpster divers to him, and he told me he thought he’d be that when he grew up.
Now when I spell something to Andy in front of him, Caleb can figure out what I’m talking about before Andy can.
Caleb said, “I want to watch Rockie and Bullwinkle. TV really won’t rot your brain”. He use to believe me when I told him it would.
I said, “When you loose a tooth the tooth fairy will put money under your pillow.” Caleb said, “That’s crazy. That doesn’t really happen.” Thankfully he hasn’t questioned Santa.
I’m just dreading the day he learns to tell time. Now we can go on and on about how late it is, and he assumes we are telling the truth.
Every day it gets harder and harder to outsmart him. Who knows what he’ll figure out tomorrow.
