These Are a Few of His Favorite Things

Andy

Here is a list of some random things Caleb is really into right now:

1. Science experiments – Tonight we had to fire up the pancake griddle and drop ice cubes on it to watch the ice turn from a solid to a liquid to a gas. His wee school teacher calls him their little scientist.

2. Detectives – Caleb is loving Nate The Great chapter books. We have a makeshift detective office down in our basement. He loves to role play and question suspects about a case we’re pretending to solve.

3. Hymns – Our best eBay purchase so far has been an old hymnal. Caleb absolutely loves singing new hymns. We sing 3 or 4 every night at bedtime. A few of his favorites are Leaning on the Everlasting Arms, Love Lifted Me, Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus, and the other great hymn of our faith, The Star Spangled Banner. I’m not sure why it’s in the hymnal, but he puts his hand over his heart and says “Play Ball” after we sing it.

4. The Great Outdoors – He loves to go hiking and to be outdoors. He’s still talking about our trip to Chattanooga where we went hiking on Lookout Mountain. This spring we went camping in our neighbors backyard, but now he wants to camp out in the real woods. I see us going on one of those in the near future if we can work it in before the weather cools down.

5. The Changing Seasons – He now knows all about why the weather gets cold in the winter and how on the bottom side of the earth the weather is getting warm right now.

6. History – He’s recently been fascinated with books about The Dust Bowl and The Homestead Act. He’s also been asking questions about the Civil War and basically anything else he can think of.

7. Guns – He’s a boy. What did you expect?

8. Pancakes – Any time is a perfect time for pancakes.

Growing up is like a roller coaster. Sometimes you’re going fast and sometimes you slow down but you’re always learning. Caleb’s brain is going like gangbusters now and I sure am enjoying seeing it through the eyes of both you and Tiffany. Keep the stories coming. You might want to wait for cool enough weather so the snakes are not crawling at night and getting in your tent. You can always snuggle up in your sleeping bags…...Love, Pappy

Caleb is a very curious and smart boy. I love being able to spend time with him and seeing things though his eyes.

He is such a sweet boy and he is definately all boy!

He is also such a loving child. You and Tiffany have done an excellent job in raising him.

I Love all of you.
