First Sunburn

Tiffany

It was a sunny 80 degree day in Fort Worth yesterday, so we made the most of it by going to 3 different parks in one day. Andy took Caleb out yesterday afternoon while I went to the grocery store. When the guys got back home I noticed that Caleb had red cheeks. I assumed that he was still hot and the redness would go away as he cooled off. Hours later his face was still red, and that is when it hit me. Andy let Caleb get his first sunburn. Caleb has never gotten even a little pink before. I asked Andy, “You did put sunscreen on him…right?” The color drained from Andy’s face. He knew he was in big trouble!

The reason this is a big deal is because I had melanoma a little over a year ago. Melanoma is a deadly form of skin cancer. I had to have the size of a softball taken off my upper arm. Since then Caleb and I have worn sunscreen everyday we walk outside.

I am happy to report that Caleb’s face was back to normal this morning. I am confident that this will be Caleb’s first and last sunburn for a very long time. (Andy is a terrific dad, and just totally forgot that you could get a sunburn in February.)
