Gently Down the Stream
Today we took Caleb canoeing for the first time. The city of Roswell hosted a Family Canoe Day on the Chattahoochee River, a few miles from our house. The weather was perfect; high in the low 80s. They provided the canoes, life-jackets, paddles, and a hot dog lunch on a paddle wheeler river boat.
We took off upstream. Caleb rode shotgun. I was in the rear. As long as we kept the boat’s nose facing the wind and current we were alright. But with our canoe heavily weighted in the back end (and not much rowing help front the front end), if we got a little off kilter, it was all I could do to keep us on track.
After a mile of upstream we turned around, and came back with the current. It’s always smart to go against the current when your fresh and with the current when you’re tired.
While we were waiting for lunch Caleb put on an impromptu dance routine. Let’s just say his dance moves are interesting, think Elaine from Seinfeld:
