Love Notes (Kindergarten style)

Andy

Our six year old Caleb is starting to sound out words and write notes to us. Here are two examples of notes he’s written to Tiffany and me. I’m worried that this is an accurate reflection of how he views his relationships to us.

Caleb’s note to Tiffany

Caleb's note to Tiffany

Translation:
I love you.
You are the best mom.
Signed Caleb.

Complete with hearts and all. We’re hanging it our on the fridge.

And his note to me

Caleb's note to Andy

Translation:
The big tarrantula
with big harry fur
is coming to get you.
By Caleb.

Isn’t that touching? We’re keeping it in my sock drawer.

Chin up, Andy – he wrote you an incredibly descriptive short story! I printed these out and plan to show them to my Advanced Type students as examples of truly free compositional space. It is amazing what natural intuition can produce when its not bogged down by instruction or expectation. The stacking of
“to
git
you.”
is loaded with mystery and anticipation. Give him more paper!
