Marriage isn’t Do-It-Yourself

Andy

I’m finally coming to terms with my lack of handyman talent. I wish I could finish my basement or replace the brakes on the Toyota all by myself, but I never seem to make time to for do-it-yourself projects. I usually waste all my handyman time wandering aimlessly around the cavernous aisles of The Home Depot or Lowes.

Perhaps if I would attempt some smaller projects and get some experience and confidence, then one day I could be a real Mr. Fixit like my dad and rightfully hold the nickname Handy Andy. Whether it’s car repair, home maintenance, gardening, or just about anything you can think of, you can probably find a useful how-to video on YouTube. With the internet, almost anything can be do-it-yourself. But not your marriage.

Fixing the problems in your marriage is not DIY. Sure, you can learn a few tips and make some changes, but you need God’s strength to keep your vows when your relationship is on the ropes. Every marriage relationship will be tested at some point.

You will go through dark tunnels, but don’t lose hope. Seek Father and allow Him to love your spouse through you. When you don’t think you have any more love for your husband or wife, you need a deeper Source. This is no time for a do-it-yourself project. When you have nothing left to give, He will provide you with the capacity to love and the courage keep your vows. Simply believe by faith that He is working and loving through you, and He will. You’ll experience the difference.
