Mommy’s Special Clothes

Saturday all three of us were in our master closet while I was trying to decide what to wear. Caleb was busy playing in the deep dark corners of the closet when he made an interesting discovery.

He pulled out a hanger full of lingerie (all from a lingerie wedding shower almost 8 years ago). Caleb held it up and said, “What time does mommy wear this?” Andy and I looked at each other, and I immediately went into an explanation. I thought it would sound more convincing if I didn’t hesitate before answering him.

I said, “Those are mommy’s costumes. Do you remember how you only wear a costume on special days like Halloween? Well those are mommy’s costumes.”

I was feeling good. Caleb seemed completely satisfied with that answer. Then Andy looked at me like I was crazy. Andy said, “Mommy and Daddy like to play dress up sometimes at night”.

Has he lost his mind? What kind of answer is that? I’d much rather Caleb telling people in public that mommy has a Halloween costume than his mommy and daddy play dress up after he goes to bed.

Thankfully Caleb dropped the subject without asking any follow up questions. I think from now on just mommy will answer Caleb’s more difficult questions.
