Overheard in the Chik-Fil-A Play land
While in the play land this evening, a boy walked in and starts untying his shoes. As is his custom, Caleb immediately approached him and asked, “Will you play with me?” (I wish it was that easy for adults to make friends).
“I want to play up there,” the boy responded, pointing to the top of the tube maze.
Undeterred, Caleb asks again, “Will you play with me?” Again the, boy responds, “I want to play up there.”
Then Caleb declares—what is to him—a very clear rule of interpersonal communication: “You have to answer yes or no.”
It all worked out okay though. They played hide-n-seek for short while, and even had a discussion about things they do well.
The little boy said, “I can swim fast, ” and Caleb followed up with, “I can swim fast too.” Then the little boy said, “I can run fast,” and of course, Caleb said, “I can run fast too.”
So there you go. A window into the fascinating world of 5-year old conversations.

I have an 18 month old son and one more on the way. Kids crack me up, I guess when you’re a 5 year old boy the criteria for a friend is simple 1) Are you a boy? Yes 2) Okay, do you want to be my friend? Yes… Okay let’s be friends. The End, now let’s chase girls then build a fort.
Talk to me, Goose
