Renovation
When we began looking at houses in Georgia, we weren’t too thrilled about having to live in a house that was older than we were. We lived in a new house in Texas, and so there weren’t many things to fix. But to in order to live close to where I work, we had to settle for a more “mature” house.
From the moment we first walked through it, we saw plenty we wanted to change cosmetically, and the home inspection report also gave us a long list of repairs that were a necessity. I regret that we didn’t take more before pictures. We were honestly surprised with how nice it actually turned out.
To give you an idea, you can take a look at all the things that the home inspector told us we needed to do.
Besides that list, there were also the things we wanted to do:
- Paint almost everything
- New windows and shutters
- New carpet and molding in the den
- New chandeliers and ceiling fans
- Reface kitchen cabinets
- Replace a sliding door with French doors
- Renovate bathrooms
- Decorations
We still have not done #7, and #8 is an ongoing project that will probably never end.
You might get the impression that we’ve gone remodeling crazy. We have been busy. In fact, we could probably make a lot of money if we decided to flip the house, but we really did this because we wanted to enjoy the house we live in. We plan on being here a long, long time. Only God knows how long. But through it all, I think we’ve kept the perspective that it doesn’t matter how beautiful your house is, if you don’t have a happy home, then what good is it? You won’t be happy.
