Wal Mart Worries

Caleb and I went off for our weekly Wal Mart pilgrimage this morning. The trip is very predictable.

He always walks in by himself so he can make the automatic doors open. We have to stop and look at every coffee maker, vacuum, and toaster oven. We always spend several minutes looking at the fish. We have to stop and play with all of the remote controls. The last stop is always in produce where Caleb weighs all of the fruit we buy.

After we pay and load the car, I push the buggy with him still in it to the buggy return. Then every week I ask him, “Do you want to stay here or come with mommy?” Of course I am joking. He normally laughs and yells, “Come with mommy…mommy be so sad without Caleb”.

This week when I asked if we wanted to stay or go he got a really scared look on his face. He was almost crying and said, “Come home with mommy!” Then when I picked him up he grabbed on and gave me a huge hug that didn’t end for a minute or so. He was really worried I was going to leave him there. It broke my heart, and I felt terrible.

So I think that on our next trip to Wal Mart I won’t mention leaving him there.
