Young Man, There’s No Need to Feel Down

Andy

I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground.
I said, young man, ‘cause you’re in a new town
There’s no need to be unhappy.

Yes, we joined our local YMCA this week. It’s really cool. They have all kinds of neat activities and amenities: basketball court, batting cages, golf cages, roller hockey rink, and of course all the exercise equipment you could ever need. They even have a Kid Fit class for 3, 4, and 5 year olds. The first time he went he said he didn’t like to sweat. Sometimes he is so much like his mom. The neighboring Y a few miles away has an indoor pool, and we have access to it as well. Caleb and I went swimming there last weekend. He was loving getting to shower and change in the locker room.

I’ve not worked out much since I left Fellowship Church at the end of October, and I’ve really missed it. Tiffany would only give me two meals a day until I started working out again :) At FC, they offered a staff workout class called “Tone N Tighten” that was led by a trainer. I realized then that I saw greater results from working out in a group setting. I suppose it was the peer pressure. Otherwise, as soon as it starts hurting, I’d say, “Oooh that was a good workout and then quit.”

So when I joined the Y, I made sure that they had classes I could go to at a convenient time: that’s 6 A.M. for me. I went to my first class the other day, and I was the only man in there. What’s with men not taking the classes? It’s not like it was easy. The lady who led it did not let up on us girls for an entire hour. I’ve not been sore like this since I worked at FC where I was sore for an entire seven months. In an odd sort of way, being sore again feels good.

The class I went to this morning had three men in it, so I don’t feel quite so weird. I’m trying to urge Tiffany to come with me to the Saturday class, but she’s still in the honeymoon phase with the treadmills that have individuals TV screens on them.

Hey Andy! Great to hear how things are going with you! And way to go with getting back into exercising, good for you! And Jeph hasn’t been to TNT since you left…he says he’s too sad that you are gone. You might want to give him a call to cheer him up cuz otherwise we may need to limit his Snuffer’s intake. :)

But I’m glad the blog is back and we get to hear how your life is going again!!!

Hi Andy,

It’s good to see that your new home transition is going well. I’ve quietly followed you along through the past few months and it’s really cool to see your family coming through the storms.

Who would have thought when we met (at LTG) almost a year ago that you would be where you are now. There is no foreseeing how God will direct our lives. It’s amazing, hunh?

Treadmills with TV screens? My gym would have treadmills with tv screens and couches. Jocks today get all the fun, I swear.
